Construction of Gunilla Palmstierna-Weiss archive

The legacy of Gunilla Palmstierna-Weis’s business is a significant piece of cultural history. Her material left behind documents more than 50 years of artistic activity. She worked both nationally and internationally and received great recognition during her professional life. Palmstierna-Weiss was active as a set designer and costume designer for Ingmar Bergman at Dramaten in Stockholm,
in Salzburg and in Munich. She also collaborated with director Fritz Kortner And with director Peter Brook at the Royal Shakespeare Company and at the Götz Friedrich Opera Festivals in Holland. Palmstierna-Weiss was awarded, among other things, the prestigious The Life Achievement Award of the International Stage Art Network 2016 and the Tony Award for Best Costume by Marat Sade directed by Peter Brook (1966). Together with his partner the artist Peter Weiss, she made a large number of film and theater productions and was part of the modern theater development in Europe in 1960 and the 70s.
In 2013, her memoir was publishedMemory playground” /Bonnier, also translated into German ”Eine Europäische Frau“By organizing Gunilla Palmstierna-Weiss’s archive, we want to give performing artists and researchers the opportunity to be inspired by her lifelong dedication to the performing arts, and encourage both experienced and new talents to develop.
